Individual Lessons:

Before starting individual lessons with Helen she recommends that you come along for a consultation lesson. Singing in front a complete stranger can be quite daunting so these sessions are an informal ‘trial’ lesson during which time you and Helen will have chance to get to know each other a little better.

It’s also an opportunity to chat about what you want to gain from singing lessons; what style(s) of music you would prefer to work with, your musical experience so far and how you would prefer to measure your progress.

Helen normally invites people coming for a consultation lesson to bring a prepared song of their own choice to sing and you will also be asked to sing some simple vocal exercises; this is to help with setting your starting point and identifying the best ways to help you develop from there.

“I absolutely LOVE my singing lessons with Helen. I’ve tried a few different teachers and even tried Rock Choir but all of them left me feeling a little unsure of myself and I used to get stressed and nervous about going. Now with Helen each lesson is a blast! I can’t believe my progress… It’s made singing fun again and I go home flying high I can’t recommend them highly enough.” [T]

“Helen was my first singing teacher and I wouldn’t choose anyone else. I was so nervous to start but she instantly puts you at ease, creating a calm and safe space. Lessons were a joy and I always looked forward to my next one. The progress I made was amazing and I couldn’t recommend her enough!” [D]

How much do lessons cost?

• Consultation lesson £20 per 45 mins
• Further lessons are £15 for ½ hour or £30 for an hour*

How often do I have to come for lessons?

How often you come is up to you, however, I would recommend lessons of at least ½ hour per week (or an hour per fortnight) as an absolute minimum.

How quickly will I improve?

Often pupils begin to see improvement in the first few weeks, however, how quickly you progress depends on how much practice you are able to do in between lessons.

Do I have to take exams?

No, you do not have to take exams unless you want to. If you do want to take an exam we will find an exam board that is appropriate for your needs.
* Please note that examining bodies typically charge exam fees. If you decide to take exams, these fees are not included in the cost of your lessons and will need to be paid seperately.

Online Lessons:

Helen first began offering Individual and Group lessons online (typically via Zoom) before anyone had even heard of COVID-19.

Of course during the current pandemic all of Helen’s teaching has shifted online (in fact some of her students now like it so much they have made noises about continuing ‘online’ even after we can all get back together again).

Helen has equipped her teaching studio with professional audio equipment to provide the best possible experience from online lessons and, as she has students scattered throughout the UK, teaching this way has become second nature.

If you are interested in exploring online tuition please contact Helen at Sing4Life to find out more

Group Lessons:

Helen can provide six hours of coaching for small groups (typically where your group normally meets**).
The day includes effective vocal warmups, breathing techniques to support your voice as well as singing in harmony and blending together with other singers, plus other hints and tips from a lifetime of experience. The programme can be adapted to suit the needs of the group.

How much do group lessons cost?

Groups of 10 or more: £20 per person – including travel within a 30 mile radius of Maidstone, Kent**

Groups of 5 or more: £25 per person – including travel within a 15 mile radius of Maidstone, Kent**

** If your group meets further away, then additional travel costs of 45p per mile (over 30 miles for groups of 10 or more, over 15 miles for groups of 5 or more) will apply – subject to a maximum travel range of 80 miles. If your group meets further than 80 miles away from Maidstone, please contact Helen to discuss.
